Because it's virtual, you can simulate changes (what happens if we increase throughput 20%, what happens if this component fails) without touching the real, expensive physical system.

The strongest use cases involve expensive, hard-to-experiment-on physical systems: testing a manufacturing-line reconfiguration virtually before a costly physical changeover, predicting how equipment wear will affect output months ahead, or optimizing building energy systems against real usage patterns.
